Wix is used by millions of people across almost 200 countries worldwide. Its main appeal is how simple and easy it is to use, even for beginners who have never built a website before, which you’ll discover in my Wix review.
Regardless of your skill level, Wix allows you to create beautiful and professional websites with full creative control using an intuitive drag and drop builder.
Whilst Wix isn’t the only website builder around, it’s definitely one of the best in terms of usability, professionalism, advanced features, and pricing (but we’ll get into that more later).
Wix Review Pros & Cons
|Easy to use editor with lots of customisation features||Once your site is live you cannot switch your template|
|Helpful features and how-to guides, including video walkthroughs||Apps are quite costly if you want to scale your website’s features|
|Website backups and advanced security features to keep your website safe|
Ease of Use
I’m always interested to hear what other people think about the platforms we try and test. I did some research into some user reviews for Wix and this is what I discovered.
Wix has been the best website builder for a while. I have been using it since 2010, exploring other options from time to time, Wix has great templates and an easy AI builder for those who are just starting and an extremely flexible and powerful editor for both pros and newbies.
Wix isn’t just a quick fix for people wanting a website. It’s clear that many people use Wix for several years and continue to stick with them due to how easy it is to build and maintain a website.
Wix is pretty good. I don’t know anything about building a website and made out ok starting from scratch. My biggest problem has been cost. It’s great the first year because you get a bunch of discounts, but expect to pay more than double when billing comes back around.
It’s very common with online services like website builders and even web hosting to offer discounts upfront, but when it comes to renewing, prices hike. However, I feel that Wix’s premiums are incredibly good value for money.
With Wix, you can choose to create your website via Wix ADI or Wix Editor. Wix ADI is great for people who don’t have much time to waste as it automatically creates your website for you based on a few answers to some questions. You can make edits but if you want to create something from scratch, I recommend the Wix Editor.
The Wix Editor uses drag and drop functionality so you can have total control of how you build your website. Simply choose any elements from the editor and drag them onto your pages.
Not that you need any coding skills to build a website, but if you do have the skills, you can use Wix Code to edit the HTML behind each template to customise it even further.
Wix’s website templates are professionally designed with a modern and slick edge. They are all mobile responsive so your website will fit on any size screen and device.
If you’re searching for a specific website you can use Wix’s categories to filter down your search e.g. business, store, creative, blog, etc.
Wix has hundreds of templates to browse through, but their major downfall is that once your site is live, you cannot change your template. You’d have to start your entire website from scratch, and that’s a real pain in the backside if you change your mind.
If you’re set on a website builder that allows you to switch templates, you may want to consider SquareSpace or Weebly as they both have this functionality.
Wix’s templates are pretty much ready to pick up and go. Once you have a template you can publish it immediately if you really want to. Making edits to Wix’s templates is so easy, for example, if you want to edit or remove text, just click the text as it appears on your page and you’ll be presented with plenty of tools and settings you can fiddle with.
You can easily upload content directly from your desktop or laptop, Facebook, or Instagram. Wix’s features and elements are really extensive once you get confident enough to explore them all.
Wix’s editor allows you to work on each page separately, and it’s super simple to add or remove pages, blogs, and forums. You can also work on your mobile design completely independently if you want it to be different, or allow Wix to optimise your website on mobile for you.
Whether you’re looking to add sliders, animations, blogs, forums, maps, or menus, Wix serves it all up on a plate for you to enjoy. And if that wasn’t enough, Wix has an enormous library full of photos, graphics and videos free for you to use!
Wix Review Tools & Features
While Wix’s templates are what most people rave about when they talk about Wix’s website builder, it would be unfair not to mention some of their great tools and features too.
Although Wix offers some great features within its editor, there’s always something else that can be added to a website to make it function better or provide a smoother user experience. That’s where Wix’s App Market comes in.
Wix’s App Market has hundreds of apps that you can install that Wix can’t provide itself, e.g. email marketing, social media integration, finance apps, etc. The apps are super simple to install with a simple click of a button.
Wix’s apps are very similar to the plugins that WordPress offers. They all do the same thing, they’re just called different things.
It’s a clever idea to connect your website and social media channels together to gain more reach and exposure for your website. With Wix you can easily add social media buttons like Facebook and Instagram to your website, share feeds, follower counts, etc.
However, Wix hasn’t yet enabled multi-channel selling where you can sell products from your websites across social media like Shopify and BigCommerce. Fingers crossed they’ll introduce it soon!
Wix’s SEO tools are highly rated, helping your website rank highly on search engines like google. The built-in SEO tools let you update your meta titles, descriptions, edit header code, etc.
There’s also plenty of SEO apps you can download from Wix’s App Market to help boost your SEO or guide you through keyword support in your content. In my opinion, Wix and Weebly are pretty much on par with what they offer in terms of SEO.
All of Wix’s plans include a free built-in SSL certificate. SSLs let search engines and your website visitors know your website is secure, meaning data and payment information is protected.
As you build your website, Wix autosaves your progress to ensure that if anything goes wrong, you can easily restore a backed-up version of your website. This is very handy for anyone building a website.
Wix has two forms of pricing plans; website and eCommerce. The website plans are designed for those who want to build a website, from personal websites to blogs, forums to small businesses.

Wix Review Summary
It was actually enjoyable researching Wix for this Wix review, trying out their website builder, and writing up a shining Wix review of them because they are hands down one of the best website builders around. I’m not just saying that; Wix is easy to use, they offer designer templates, and you can build any website you like, including an online store.
Whilst every product or service will have its cons, I struggled to find too many with Wix, at least not any deal breakers. Its eCommerce functions certainly aren’t a match for the likes of Shopify, and you can’t switch templates once your website is live. But, as I said, if you know these things going into Wix, then you can make an informed decision as to whether this would put you off.
All of Wix’s premium plans include a 14-day money-back guarantee, so I would recommend trying out the plan that takes your fancy, and making a decision before the two weeks is up. Alternatively, Wix does have a free plan, but it’s very limited.
Wix Review FAQs
Do I have to pay to host my website with Wix?
No! The cost of hosting is already included within your Wix pricing plan. This is the same for your SSL certificate and domain if your plan includes it. Even if you’re on Wix’s free plan, you’ll still get the same benefits, but you will have adverts on your site and a Wix subdomain.
Can someone else help me with my Wix site?
Yes! You can invite people to work on your site with different levels of access and authority. You can also restrict people from accessing certain parts of your website, allowing you to build a team to create and edit your website.
Should I hire a web developer?
That’s really up to you, but Wix’s platform gives you ultimate control over your website and you don’t have to know how to code. All of the templates are beautifully designed and easy to edit, and it’s much cheaper to sign up for Wix than it is to hire a developer.
Can I create a separate mobile site?
Yes. Wix’s editor allows you to design your website and your mobile site independently if you wish to do this. It’s easy to switch between both editors, but if you don’t want to customise your mobile site separately, you can simply tell Wix to create a mobile design based on your main website.
