With their three web hosting plans, alone, 1&1 offer so many features, we haven’t even included all of them! After the initial 12 months, the basic plan increases to £4.99 a month, the plus plan increases to £6.99 a month, and the pro plan increases to £9.99 a month. In honesty, considering what’s on offer, against the competition in the market, we were pleasantly surprised by 1&1’s prices. Along with standard web hosting, we love the fact that 1&1 offer other services within their plans, such as, their website builder, marketing tools, ecommerce tools, and even an affiliate programme.

We love the fact that 1&1 don’t charge their customers any extra per month for WordPress hosting; we’ve come across many website hosting companies who charge more for their WordPress hosting, so it’s a big relief to see this isn’t the case with 1&1.
1&1’s WordPress hosting packages all come with SSD storage, ensuring speed and performance is at the forefront of their plans. All plans come with WP expert support, so even if you’re just getting started on the basic package, you’ll still have access to WP expert support staff, guiding you through any issues or queries you might have. Pre-installed plugins are included with all plans, meaning you can get your website up and running within minutes, without having to do the fiddly bits yourself.
Managed Cloud Hosting
As well as shared web hosting and WordPress hosting, 1&1 also offer managed cloud hosting packages. All of their plans come with dedicated resources, free choice of stack configuration, managed service, and 24/7 support.

1&1 Review: Uptime
1&1 have been around for a long time, so we wanted to see if their reputation could withstand us delving into their uptime records. We brought up some statistics which show 1&1’s uptime record since 2005, which gave an overall uptime rating of 99.927%, which isn’t bad, but it isn’t great either considering a lot of major web hosting providers guarantee a 99.9% uptime. However, we check our 1&1’s record for the last 12 months, and the last 5 years, and are pleased to report a 100% uptime rating. Over the space of 5 years, that is pretty impressive!
Even though 1&1 don’t make any promises or guarantees regarding their uptime, they do store data simultaneously in two locations, so, if one server happens to fail, the other will take over immediately. 1&1 utilises data centres across Europe and the USA, with a variety of backup systems, security (such as DDoS Protection), and their latest hybrid technology.
Customer Support
1&1’s customer support can be contacted via telephone, email, social media, or information can be found on their FAQ’s and knowledge base. Their customer support is 24/7, so if you can’t find the answer that you’re looking for on their website, you have the option to call them at any time, or you can arrange for them to call you, which we feel is a really handy feature. Often people may want to ask a question that isn’t necessarily urgent, but they don’t want the potential to be kept on hold, listening to awful music for several minutes, so asking 1&1 to call you back at a dedicated time is a very nice feature.
Each area of customer support is dedicated for each country/region you’re in, and all methods are free and relatively easy to use. We were surprised at how active 1&1 staff were, on social media like Twitter, but we feel this is an added benefit, and that the company don’t feel like they have to hide their presence in the social media world.
1&1’s support staff were friendly and knowledgeable, if a little pushy at times – the reason we mention this is because after purchasing a domain name and hosting plan through them, they persisted to call every couple of weeks to check how things were. It’s great that they care about their customers, but we feel this should be an obvious option for customers to select when purchasing, whether or not they want a follow up call about their purchased services.
1&1 Review: Summary
With one of the world’s leading hosting providers, 1&1 truly display this throughout their website and across their variety of hosting packages. You can really tell that 1&1 have built their business over time and put in the time and effort into tailoring their plans to suit customer needs; whether you’re a small startup business, hosting a WordPress blog, or a big-time business, we’re sure you’ll find what you need through 1&1.
If you want reliability, all the tools to build and host a website, or need a more advanced solution such as dedicated hosting, we feel that 1&1 exceeds in all of these areas. Even if you’re not convinced, 1&1 offer a 60-day money back guarantee; this might not be the longest guarantee we’ve seen on offer, but it certainly isn’t the worst, and gives their customers the confidence that they can rely and trust their services.
