HostGator’s web hosting package comes with 3 different plans to choose from, which all include unmetered disk space, bandwidth, instant backups, 24/7/365 support, and a 99.9% uptime guarantee.

Cloud Hosting

HostGator’s cloud hosting claims to be twice as fast as their standard web hosting, having a larger server allocation in the cloud, and receiving no interruptions to your service with large traffic spikes. Their cloud hosting package comes with 3 different plans to choose from.

At only $1/mo more, the hatchling cloud hosting plan trumps the hatchling web hosting plan in speed and performance. However, if you’re new to the game, it would make more sense to opt for the web hosting plan, offering a free website builder, and marketing credits, to get you started on your journey.

WordPress Hosting

HostGator’s WordPress hosting plans all come with a WordPress cloud interface, auto-backup with 1-click restores, and is easy to manage and view all of your email accounts. Their free migration service will allow you to transfer your existing WordPress site to HostGator. Some plans also include a free consultation with WP Experts.

Starter Standard Business
Max sites 1 2 3
Monthly visitors 25,000 200,000 500,000
Power 2x 3x
Storage 50GB 150GB Unlimited
Free migration 1 site 2 sites 3 sites
Emails Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited
Google AdWords credit $100 $100 $100
Price $5.95/mo $7.95/mo $9.95/mo

The starter plan is great if you are just starting out on your website/blog journey, however, we feel it would be better to opt for the standard plan, as HostGator recommends. You get a lot more for your money without stretching the budget too far. The only real difference between the standard and business plans is the number of sites allowed, and the storage space. Considering the average size of WordPress websites, or most websites, you wouldn’t ever come close to reaching the limit set out anyway.

Reseller Hosting

HostGator’s reseller hosting plans come with a lot of useful features, including WHMCS client management for free. This service can be costly as a standalone product, so the fact that HostGator include it within their packages is a really good deal. All plans come with WHM control panel, cPanel, unlimited MySQL databases, and 24/7/365 premium support.

Aluminium Copper Silver
Disk Space 60GB 90GB 140GB
Bandwidth 600GB 900GB 1400GB
Domains Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited
Price (first month) $19.95/mo $24.95/mo $24.95/mo

The free features and support that comes with HostGator’s reseller plans is really appealing, however, we were quite disappointed by the specifications of each plan. A reseller plan with a limit on disk space is almost pointless; if you’re looking to essentially become a reseller hosting provider, you want to be able to host an unlimited number of websites to cater for as many clients as you can manage, realistically. Perhaps if you’re just looking to get started in the reseller world, HostGator’s packages may be a good starting point, however, we are familiar with many other web hosting companies who charge less or even the same as HostGator does, for unlimited space and bandwidth.

VPS Hosting

HostGator’s VPS hosting gives you more control with full root access, powerful hardware, 24/7/365 support, and unlimited domains, email addresses, databases, and FTP accounts.

Snappy 2000 Snappy 4000 Snappy 8000

Uptime

HostGator guarantee a 99.9% uptime which is something we always like to see with web hosting providers; it gives us and the companies customers the confidence required before making a purchase. Although there are no stats on their website, we checked out HostGator’s uptime record to make sure everything checks out. For the last 5 years, HostGator have successfully recorded a 100% uptime; they pride themselves on having the best and latest technology for their servers and host over 8 million domains. Considering their reliability and standards, we can understand why they have such a large customer base, and are so well known and recognisable.

Customer Support

HostGator offer 24/7/365 support; something which should really come as standard with all web hosting companies, given that if anything goes wrong, it could cost a customer their business. We were able to contact HostGator via lice chat, email, and a toll-free number (for U.S customers), as well as taking a peek at their FAQ’s and knowledgebase.

We spoke to one of their live chat advisors who was very helpful and seemingly knowledgeable; they were friendly and took the time to walk us through the questions that we had for them. Live support is such an important feature; often people are very busy and don’t have time to wait on hold on the phone, or wait hours for an email response. It certainly feels as though HostGator push for the highest of standards when it comes to support and their technical knowledge.

It’s often the case that there are bad reviews surrounding customer service, for most hosting providers, as customers tend to report the negative aspects, rather than positive ones. We checked out some customer reviews and found that HostGator’s support was where the issues lay, reporting slow responses to email tickets, and long hold times on the telephone. This is why we always opt for live chat as a preference, as customer support can often be frustrating, but our experience was very pleasant. If you do feel that the support is a tipping point for you, all customers have a generous 45-day money back guarantee.

Summary

HostGator offer a wide range of services, and have a lot more plans available compared to other hosting companies; so, if you’re not quite sure where to start, there’s always a package for everyone with HostGator. HostGator offer easy to use and simplified tools within their plans, making it easy for beginners, and even experts, to get to grips with their interface. Compared to other competitors, HostGator doesn’t always come out the cheapest, but with their offers and regular sales, this doesn’t always apply.

Customer support, in our opinion was great, though others don’t seem to feel this way. As we said before, it’s worth giving their services a try, including customer support, to see how your experience turns out. If it isn’t suitable for you, HostGator offer a 45-day money back guarantee, so you don’t need to worry about wasting your money. With a solid reputation, HostGator offer some brilliant services at a reasonable cost, with years of experience behind them, so why not give them a try.
