BlueHost Web Hosting Sign Up Guide

BlueHost Web Hosting Sign Up Guide

Whether you’ve never signed up to a web host before, a returning customer, or familiar with the process, signing up to a new web host can be a little confusing. With so many web hosts competing for the top spot in terms of user experience, we’ve put together a step-by-step guide on how to sign up to BlueHost.

Click the below link to go to BlueHost (will open in a new window). You can use this guide to help you through the process from start to finish!

Step 1: Selecting your hosting plan

When you first land on BlueHost’s website, you’re instantly presented with ‘the best web hosting’. There’s a call to action to ‘get started now’. Simply click on the green button to view BlueHost’s web hosting plans.

Choosing your web hosting plan really depends on what you intend to use your website for, and your hosting needs. We’ve taken the time to research the best plan for a variety of uses. This will help you make an informed decision:

  • Basic – Ideal for users who want to host a small blog or personal website. The basic plan allows you to host 1 website and includes 1-click installs such as WordPress. You’ll have 50 GB worth of storage space to play with. However, bear in mind that most websites on average don’t exceed 5 GB.
  • Plus – Perfect for those who want a little more flexibility when it comes to hosting their website (or websites). You’ll have unlimited space, websites, email accounts, and marketing credits. If you want to show off your latest portfolio, run a popular blog, or simply have a lot of incoming traffic to your site, the plus plan is both suitable and affordable.
  • Prime – Currently at a discounted price, BlueHost’s prime package is a great option for eCommerce websites. It also offers added extras like SpamExperts, Domain Privacy, and Site Backup. This is all at the same price of the Plus package. Growing or existing businesses would benefit from the unlimited features and unmetered bandwidth on offer.

Once you’ve decided on the plan that suits your websites needs, simply click the green select option below the plan.

Step 2: Choosing your domain

All of BlueHost’s plans come with 1 included domain. You can choose to include a domain of your choice at no extra cost.

If you would like to choose a new domain, simply enter your desired domain name into the new domain box. Your domain name should be easy to remember and be relevant to your website. You can change your domain extension in the drop down if you choose to do so.

If your domain name is available, you’ll be taken to BlueHost’s ‘create your account’ page. Here you’ll be asked to fill in your personal information to register your web hosting account. If you already have an existing domain name, simply enter your full domain e.g. ‘’ into the ‘I have a domain name’ box and click next.

Step 3: Sign up to Bluehost and creating your account

Creating your account with BlueHost is a very simple process; they’ve even integrated Google to their account setup process. If you have a Google account, simply sign in with your details, which will populate into the account information boxes below.

If you don’t have a Google account, don’t worry, the sign up process is exactly the same, and just as easy! Fill out all of the required fields and ensure that all of your information is accurate – if it isn’t, it could cause problems when registering your account.

You’ll now need to confirm how long you want your web hosting term to be; the longer your term, the cheaper your monthly price works out. It’s entirely up to you how your proceed here, but in our experience, although the initial outlay may seem expensive, a longer term does reduce your overall monthly costs.

You’ll also have the option to select some additional extras that you can include within your web hosting plan; each option allows you to view ‘more information’ so that you know exactly what you’re signing up to, if you choose any add-ons.

Once you’re ready to proceed, double check your selected options to ensure you’re happy with your hosting plan, and enter your payment information. You’ll be asked to confirm BlueHost’s terms and conditions, cancellation policy, and privacy policy before continuing.

It’s literally that easy to sign up to Bluehost. Next we’ll show you how to use the 1-click installation feature so you can use software like WordPress.

Step 4: Using the 1-click install feature

Once your payment has been verified, BlueHost will display a progress bar of how far along your account is in terms of being setup. This generally takes no longer than 2-5 minutes at most.

You’ll be automatically taken to BlueHost’s control panel, which is simple, clean, and really easy to use. You can manage every aspect of your web hosting in one place, including your 1-click installs like WordPress, domains, websites, market place, and more.

On the left hand side of your control panel, you’ll see a tab called ‘Marketplace’ – simply click this button then scroll down to the ‘Featured Products’ area where there is a tab called ‘One-Click Installs’. Clicking this tab will display BlueHost’s featured installs.

Step 5: Making your WordPress website live

Getting a WordPress website live is really easy with BlueHost. Just click ‘install’ on the WordPress product from your Marketplace, where you’ll be taken to a new page to select your site name and tagline.

Once you click next, you’ll be able to choose which domain you want to install your 1-click WordPress install to. Simply click the drop down arrow in the domain field to select your domain. You can name your WordPress directory here if you intend for it to be any different than the default, otherwise you can leave it blank.

BlueHost suggest two helpful free plugins before you even get started; you’re more than welcome to include them within your WordPress install, but once your WordPress site has been installed, you’ll open the doors to a world of plugins. Select next and keep track of your installation process (bear in mind this can take a few minutes – so be patient!)

Once WordPress has installed, you’ll be notified by BlueHost, along with your installation details, username, password, and the option to login to your new WordPress website. Go ahead and login to see what new features are waiting for you.

Once you’ve logged in for the first time, WordPress will ask you if you need help setting up your WordPress website; it’s entirely up to you whether you choose yes or no – the information you provide to WordPress helps establish what kind of plugins may be useful to you depending on the type of website you’re wanting to create.

Regardless of which option you choose, or whether you select ‘I don’t need help’, you’ll be able to customise your new WordPress website, change themes, install plugins, and let your imagination run wild. When you’re ready to launch your website so that the world can see it, simply select ‘BlueHost’ from the navigation bar and click ‘launch’.

Step 6: Managing your WordPress websites

If you’ve taken the opportunity to use BlueHost’s 1-click WordPress install, you can manage your WordPress websites from your hosting control panel. Simply create a new site, or hover over an existing site to manage it. You can also log into your WordPress account.

If you login to WordPress, you’ll be taken to your dashboard where you can create your website. You can also change themes, and customise your website or blog to your hearts content! All with a simple click of a button.

Managing your site provides you with an overview of your WordPress site. It includes how many themes you have, plugins, users, and whether or not your version is up to date or not.
